After such an amazing September it would be right to feel as if the usual guidelines for gardening at this time of month are not really relevant but, as we know, with the great Irish weather it is always up and down and our scorching September cannot last forever. So here are a few handy tips for gardening in the greenhouse this October...
Maintain temperature above 45°F / 7°C
Ventilate only on a warm day
Water plants sparingly and carefully
Remove dead heads, fallen leaves etc to prevent mould
Bring all half hardy plants inside
Insulate greenhouse again if necessary
Plant Tulip, Hyacinth, Crocus and Snowdrop bulbs ready for spring
Bring Chrysanthemums indoors and cut flowers
Lift Tomato plants when the crop is finished
Harvest Tomatoes, Peppers and Aubergines
Sow spring cropping Lettuces
