The Change In Our Spring Clean Blog Image

Do we take household cleaning for granted?

How did people of days gone by do a spring clean compared to how we clean our homes now?

Cleaning then

Years ago people did not have the technology that we have now.

They had not yet thought up a lot of the nifty inventions that we have now.

They didn’t have the machinery we have in factories creating and mixing all of our chemical cleaners.

Yet, they still had the same will to keep their homes clean.

Cleaning, although not easier, was carried out using simpler methods.

People were creative with items they already had in their homes.

Many of us would be surprised nowadays, how useful the small everyday items we have in our press can be!

Floors were covered with rugs not carpets so they were taken out to beat in the fresh air to remove dirt and dust.

To remove the stains lemon juice was very efficient at lifting them, while hot bread could soak and remove them.

Baking soda or bicarbonate of soda was another useful household substance for cleaning all sorts.

Vinegar and newspaper would leave windows sparkling clean.

Life in days gone by meant cleaning so that the home looked clean, smelt clean and felt clean.

Cleaning now

Cleaning our homes nowadays, we look at things slightly differently.

In the modern world we are all so much more aware about bacteria.

Cleaning is no longer about keeping a tidy and dust-free home but about killing germs and preventing sickness.

This is likely the answer as to why there is now a never-ending stream of new and strengthened cleaning products.

Cleaning products nowadays must pass strict chemical tests in laboratories.

Carpets cover floors and new technology is required to keep these clean. Vacuum cleaners are a typical cleaning tool kept in most households.

The fresh, clean lemony scent has now evolved to a range of exotic flower fragrances.

Our homes are constructed and designed using a wider range of material meaning we require cleaning products and cleaning tools that will take this into consideration.

The speed of modern life also contributes to how cleaning products and cleaning tools are created and designed.

Cleaning is expected to be instant nowadays.

Less time scrubbing, less time drying and less time finding the right tool or product.

This is what leads to a range of different mops, brushes, vacuums and cleaning chemicals!

Cleaning is never an easy job, but as the world moves on so does our cleaning style.
