- The surface should be clean and smooth.
- If grain is open, fill with Rustins Grainfiller.
- Stain if necessary with Rustins Wood Dye.
- Seal the wood with two coats of Rustins Shellac Sanding Sealer prior to French Polishing.
- Apply with a "Rubber" made by wrapping a piece of cotton wool in cotton or linen rag the size of a handkerchief.
- Pour polish into rubber and squeeze out excess, dab a spot of linseed oil on the rubber, and work in a circular or figure of 8 motion.
- Apply several coats, sandpaper lightly between coats if necessary.
- Finish using straight even strokes with polish thinned with methylated spirits.
