Sunflower Seeds - Bird Table Flower
Sowing Peiod: March - May Flowering: August - October
Sowing Peiod: March - May Flowering: August - October
- Grow the sunflower with the biggest head!
- The flower heads can grow up to a massive 50cm (20") wide on strong, sturdy stems. But it is after the flower is gone that your bird table is formed and it’s an edible one!
- The old flower head is full of seeds to feed the birds well into the autumn. Height 3.5m (12').
- Sow your seeds individually into small plant pots and grow them on a sunny windowsill.
- From March as the plant's roots stick out of the bottom of the pot, plant into a bigger plant pot with more space.
- Plant outside in mid May using a tall cane as a support.
- Seeds can also be sown straight into the ground two fingers deep in May.
- The flower is ready to use as a bird table when it has dropped its petals and you can see the seeds.
- Get a grown-up to chop the flower off and put it on a wall or table.
- You can then watch the birds eat the seeds, you can eat them too!
